Manufacturing is a Critical Part of our UK Economy

Manufacturers across the UK received a letter from The RT HON ALOK SHARMA MP Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy on April 8th 2020. Within this letter he said “At this unprecedented time for the UK I want to pay tribute to you for the work you are doing to keep the UK economy going.” He recognised that “Manufacturing is a critical part of our economy”

Indeed all manufacturers along with material suppliers and haulage companies have pulled together to get what is required, manufactured, transported and installed as quickly as possible. We have shared knowledge, shouted out for help, and answered the calls of others. We have offered up our tools, skill and labour to maybe step out of our norm to adapt and overcome where possible. This is why in our opinion Great British manufacturing has lots to be proud of.

Here at Abbott we continue to manufacture the same quality Great British Pressure Vessels and Air receivers we always have, albeit under different guidelines. As Alok Sharma said “I realise this will be challenging for you personally, but you are contributing to the resilience of our nation and I am grateful for the enormous efforts you are making in order to support the UK at this testing time.”

And yes it is a challenging time to be in manufacturing. Ensuring safety of employees, balancing deliveries of raw material with manufacturing output and customer urgent requirement. But it is also a time to reflect on just how much skill gained over many years and with such dedication is here within UK manufacturing. We do truly believe that all Great British Manufacturers have shown enormous unity, flexibility and resilience during this time. These are Great British manufacturers doing their Great British best! We are proud to be one of them.
